Itinerary

Day 1Arrival and Transfer to Akagera National Park

  • Morning: Your adventure begins with a warm welcome at Kigali International Airport or your accommodation in Kigali. After a brief introduction and safari briefing, we’ll embark on a scenic 2.5-hour drive to Akagera National Park, located in eastern Rwanda near the Tanzanian border. The journey offers picturesque views of Rwanda’s rolling hills and rural landscapes.
  • Afternoon: Upon arrival at the park, we’ll proceed to the park headquarters for registration and a short briefing on park regulations. Afterward, enjoy a leisurely lunch at the Akagera Game Lodge, where you can savor local and international cuisines while overlooking the park’s vast savannah.
  • Evening: Post-lunch, we’ll head to Lake Ihema, the largest lake in the park and the second-largest in Rwanda. Here, you’ll embark on a one-hour boat safari, offering close-up views of hippos, crocodiles, and a plethora of bird species such as the African fish eagle, kingfishers, and herons. The boat trip is scheduled for 4:30 PM, providing a serene setting as the sun begins to set.
  • Night: After the boat excursion, we’ll set up our lakeside campsite. Enjoy a hearty dinner prepared by our camp chef, followed by an evening around the campfire, sharing stories and listening to the sounds of the wild. Retire to your comfortable tent for a restful night’s sleep under the star-lit African sky.

Day 2Morning Game Drive and Departure

  • Early Morning: Awaken to the sounds of nature and enjoy a hot breakfast. We’ll then embark on a morning game drive, the optimal time to spot wildlife as they are most active during the cooler hours. Traverse the park’s diverse habitats, from savannah plains to woodlands, in search of the Big Five: lions, elephants, buffaloes, leopards, and rhinos. Other sightings may include giraffes, zebras, antelopes, and various bird species.
  • Late Morning: After the game drive, we’ll return to the campsite to freshen up and pack. Enjoy a leisurely brunch by the lake, taking in the serene surroundings one last time.
  • Afternoon: Depart from Akagera National Park and begin the drive back to Kigali. Upon arrival, you’ll be dropped off at your hotel or the airport for your onward journey, marking the end of a memorable adventure.
